I found this cocktail, the Bold Botanist Gin Sour, in my Bartender Live app. I love an egg creme cocktail. The addition of egg white makes it so silky. It’s a mouth feel, not a flavor. Of course, the base spirit is gin. While the recipe doesn’t call for it, I would recommend The Botanist gin. I also recommend garnishing with freshly grated nutmeg and a star anise. Not only is it beautiful, but the nutmeg really compliments the cocktail, and the star anise gives a nice spicy aromatic touch when you sip. I prefer this served in a coupe glass, but the app recommended a martini glass.
For those of you on an iPhone, the Bartender Live app is a lot of fun. You can check off all the ingredients you have available in your bar, and the drink library will return drinks you can make with the ingredients you have.
- 2 oz Gin
- 6 Mint Leaves
- 5 Drops Angostura Bitters
- 3/4 oz Lemon Juice
- 1/4 oz Simple Syrup
- 1 Egg White
Combine gin, mint, lemon juice, simple syrup, and egg white in a shaker and dry shake. Add ice and shake again. Strain in to coupe or martini glass. Drop the bitters onto the surface.
Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg and a star anise pod.
