Go figure this cocktail experienced a renewed popularity on June 24, 2022.
I was having a hard time that weekend, so when Dan and I made our Monday Night Cocktails, I pulled out the Bitter Bitch. Traditionally, this is made with tangerine juice, but more recently I’ve seen it made with orange juice. I really like the double orange flavor with the juice and Aperol. I’m just thankful that I finally found a good use for that Limoncello.
In my anger, I originally put all the contents into the shaker. Only after I started to shake did Dan tell me I was supposed to float the Aperol. I did on the second round. It’s definitely better with the float.
I’m also a fan of using a spritz of orange oil. I can’t bring myself to buy fruit just to use the peel. I want to make sure I use the whole fruit. I did have dehydrated blood orange slices that I could use for a garnish. Dan and I were just discussing that we are going to have to take our garnish game up a notch. I like using dehydrated fruit as it keeps for a while and it still adds that decorative touch.
I loved it. It blended well with my bitter soul. Daniel definitely enjoyed it; however, he did wince a little at the bitterness. To be fair, I love bitter and sour flavors, so this was perfect for me.
